In 2022, IMU-MERI launched a new program in 'Data Science for Maritime Industry' in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT-B). This program aims to train professionals in data science and its applications in the maritime sector. It is a one-year, full-time program open to graduates from any field.
The campus has recently acquired a new ship simulator, which is one of the most advanced simulators in India. It is used for training students in ship handling and maneuvering, navigation, and other essential skills required for maritime operations.
IMU-MERI has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Mumbai Port Trust (MbPT) to establish a Centre of Excellence in Port Management. This center will provide training and research in port management and related areas.

The Mumbai campus of the Indian Maritime University (IMU) was established in 1963 as the Marine Engineering and Research Institute (MERI). It is the second oldest campus of IMU after its main campus in Visakhapatnam. IMU-MERI is a leading maritime education and training institute offering various courses and programs in marine engineering, naval architecture, marine management, and other related fields. The institute is recognized as a Centre of Excellence by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD).
